Recent Work

Artists get their inspiration from many different places. Flight of the Egrets began as an idea shortly after a trip I took delivering my paintings to the Great Artists' Collective gallery in New Orleans.

A close friend of mine Rick who has gone along with me on the two recent trips would shout out " Egrets!" every time we passed one in the swamps of south Luisiana and Mississippi. It was then that I began forming my future artwork in my head.

I told Rick that I was going to put egrets in a future painting.

As an illustrative painter, I collect imagery from all sorts of places. I may use a dress from one image, a face from another, an arm here, a background there....

Just as an illustrator has a " morgue" and uses reference, my paintings are derivative in nature, but I know what it is that I am planning well before I begin collecting reference.

The woman being in a white wedding dress, and the white flying egrets are an allegory for a new chapter in the subject's life.

You may see the entire painting in the gallery section of my web site.
